We all know it to be true. Sometimes it takes some research to give us just that extra nudge to make a change. So here are three ways that engaging in nature helps us be healthier, according to UC Davis:
1) Getting into nature can help us to improve our thinking, reasoning and other mental abilities. Nature slows us down, reduces sensory input, relaxes us and reduces stress. Additionally, it can boost creativity and problem solving abilities. Mind plagued by overthinking a problem? Maybe a walk by some trees will help provide the breakthrough.
2) Nature can improve physical wellness. Well maybe not nature directly, but our activity and presence in it. Increased steps, reduced cortisol levels, lower demands on our cardiovascular system - all benefits of being in the woods, or at the beach. Or whatever nature is near you.
3) Being outside can improve your mental health. Anxiety decreases, quality of sleep increases, and our minds and souls are for the better.
Time to take a walk!
