Often I am asked how I get these images. "They are from such a unique angle, are you on a surfboard?" "Does your camera get wet?" "Do you get smashed by the waves?"
Well, I have a few quick answers:
- I am not on a surfboard - I am swimming in the surf.
- My camera doesn't get wet because it is in a housing.
- Yes, I get smashed by the waves.
Swimming in the surf requires constant vigilance (trying to avoid getting a wave on the head while attempting to get the best shots at the same time), and curating the equipment takes time. Here are the main pieces of gear I use:
- Camera bodies: Sony a7r5, Sony a7r3, Sony a6300
- Lenses for the a6300: Sony 35mm, Sony 16-50 and Tamron 12mm fisheye
- Lenses for the a7r3 and a7r5: Sony 85mm 1.8, Sony 24-70 2.8, Sony 70-200 f4
- GoPro Hero 12
- DJI Flip drone
- Liquid Eye water housings, zoom gears and ports for the 3 camera bodies
- Lumecube lights
